Hello everyone! This is Dr. Guerrero, Superintendent of Schools, and this is our February video update. Welcome officially to the Spring semester of the 2020-2021 school year. Our students have been back in Distance Learning and Small Cohorts sessions since last month and all our staff has resumed their work assignments at their site. We have also made some changes to the Distance Learning schedule recently so thank you for your flexibility. Parents, students and staff have reported liking the changes, even if it means having to again adjust. The change will make it easier to transition to in-person hybrid instruction as soon as we are cleared by the State department of public health.
The recent COVID-19 numbers in Fresno County are showing some improvement and the Stay Home order has been lifted by our governor. We anticipate that the numbers will continue to get better and will immediately communicate with you as soon as we are able to reopen our schools.
Under the current guidance, we are only able to continue with Small Cohort instruction and school staff has been reaching out to students who meet the criteria. The number of students we serve in these groups has been increasing, but there is still room for more students to attend. Please consider allowing your child to participate if you receive an invitation from their school. School staff has reported a notable improvement in the engagement and achievement of students who are physically receiving in-person services. We will continue this type of instruction until we are able to offer it to all students at their school.
We continue to prepare our schools for whenever this time comes and have submitted all required documentation to the State and County and have posted it to our website. You may find our most updated COVID Safety Plan in the Resources section. I invite you to review it as soon as you can. Our staff has also been hard at work to communicate their safety protocols and have posted this information on their website. These plans may change as we respond to all County and State guidance, but rest assured that we will continue to update you.
I thank you for your continued patience, understanding, and support. We are all trying every day to make the most of this difficult situation and have managed to adapt as things change for the sake of our students.
One thing does remain the same--it is extremely important for all students to log in to Zoom and complete all assignments EVERYDAY! It is very important for our students to keep learning as much as they can while we wait for the time when all students can physically return to our schools.
Let’s do our part to make this happen and remember to continue to wear our masks, wash our hands regularly, and keep our distance. You may be hearing more about COVID testing and vaccinations recently. We have partnered with Fresno County and the City of Parlier to offer these services locally to our students, staff, and community and will communicate with you as soon as they are available.
I want to take this opportunity to thank our counselors for their commitment and hard work and hope that they enjoyed their week of appreciation. We will soon be celebrating Valentine’s Day. Though it is typically seen as a day to focus on our significant others, I invite you to celebrate loving one another as human beings and appreciating our relationships and connections with each other, especially as we face similar struggles during this pandemic. I personally thank you all for your support and partnership and the love you have shown me! I continue to remain optimistic about all the positive things that will come our way the rest of this year. ¡Hola a todos! Soy la Dra. Guerrero, la Superintendente de las escuelas de Parlier, y este es nuestro video del mes de febrero. Bienvenidos oficialmente al semestre de la primavera del año escolar 2020-2021. Nuestros estudiantes han vuelto a las sesiones de aprendizaje a distancia y grupos pequeños desde el mes pasado y todo nuestro personal ha regresado a sus asignaciones de trabajo en las escuelas. También hemos hecho algunos cambios al programa de aprendizaje a distancia recientemente, así que gracias por su flexibilidad. Los padres, estudiantes y maestros han comentado que les gustan los cambios, aunque signifique el tener que adaptarse nuevamente. El cambio facilitará la transición a la instrucción híbrida en persona tan pronto como el Departamento de Salud Pública del Estado lo autorice.
Las cifras recientes de COVID-19 en el condado de Fresno están mejorando y nuestro gobernador ha levantado la orden de quedarse en casa. Anticipamos que los números continuarán mejorando y nos comunicaremos inmediatamente con usted tan pronto como podamos reabrir nuestras escuelas.
Bajo la guía actual, solo podemos continuar con la instrucción en grupos pequeños y el personal de la escuela ha seguido invitando a estudiantes para que participen. La cantidad de estudiantes a los que enseñamos en estos grupos ha aumentado, pero todavía hay espacio para que asistan todavía más. Consideren permitir que su hijo(a) participe si recibe una invitación de su escuela. El personal de la escuela ha informado un mejoramiento por los estudiantes que han participado. Continuaremos con este tipo de instrucción hasta que podamos ofrecer a todos los estudiantes en su escuela.
Continuamos preparando nuestras escuelas para cuando llegue este momento y hemos mandado toda la documentación requerida al estado y al condado y la hemos publicado en nuestro sitio web. Puede encontrar nuestro Plan de Seguridad del COVID más actualizado en la sección de Recursos. Los invito a revisarlo lo antes posible. Nuestro personal también se ha esmerado para comunicar los protocolos de seguridad y ha publicado esta información en su sitio web de la escuela. Estos planes pueden cambiar a medida que respondemos a todas las pautas del condado y del estado, pero tengan la seguridad de que los mantendremos informados.

Pronto estaremos celebrando el día de San Valentín. Aunque generalmente se considera un día para enfocarnos en nuestras parejas, los invito a celebrar el amarnos unos a otros como seres humanos y apreciar nuestras relación y conexión entre nosotros, especialmente cuando enfrentamos luchas semejantes durante esta pandemia. ¡Yo personalmente les agradezco a todos su apoyo y colaboración y el amor que me han mostrado!
