Department Information

English:

The English and ELD Department focuses on ensuring all students are able to read, write, speak, and listen in the English language. Our teachers focus on the language and literacy skills the students bring to the classroom and then build on those skills to help them succeed. We focus on both literary and informative texts, introducing students to reading material they may or may not be familiar with. Students will write essays, work in groups on project-based assessments, take formative and summative assessments, and answer open-ended questions to help with their comprehension and understanding of the real world. As a department, we strive to help our students focus on being able to take the skills learned in their English and ELD classes to the real world and their other subjects.

Science:

Science knowledge is essential in this modern world. It is an important factor in making sound, educated decisions. It is our goal at Parlier Junior High, to teach students the science processes that will make them better decision-makers and better citizens.

We work individually, in groups, and as a class to better our understanding of social, political and cultural movements that have shaped human history. Our overall goal is to help each one of our students develop disciplinary literacy within history.
